friends and colleagues in the Branch.
The prize will be awarded to the best short presentation on a
water or environmental subject.

membership process and explain the changes that are about to come
into force.

Mandatory competencies workshop
17:30 to 18:00
One of the questions asked most often about the membership
process at branch meetings is what do the mandatory competencies
mean and how you can demonstrate your experience. This half hour
open workshop will take you through the competencies and give
advice on how to present your experience.
In order to help us plan the event and catering please
email Briony Harvey if
you want to attend the competencies workshop or come as a member of
the audience for the Glyn Ellis competition.
Thanks to the kind support of United Utilities this is a
free event.

Sustainability at the Olympic Park
18:30 to 20:30 (Refreshments from 18:00)
Joint meeting with the Institution of Civil Engineers Cheshire
Branch.
Mercure Chester
East Hotel, Whitchurch Road, Christleton, CH3

The London 2012 Olympics will be the greenest, most sustainable
Olympics ever. This statement was one of the
most eye catching statements made by the bid team when London was
awarded the Olympics. Delivering such a
promise in a contaminated, industrial site in East London seemed
almost unthinkable.
However this summer the British construction industry will be proud
to demonstrate that we delivered against this
promise. We also delivered the Olympic Park to time and budget,
despite many doubts when the work first begun.
This presentation focuses on sustainability aspects of delivering
the Olympic Park. From the treatment of
contaminated soil, monitoring of plant exhaust gases and delivery
logistics, right the way through to delivering the largest new
green space in the UK.
Peter Braithwaite is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered
Environmentalist, being a Fellow of the
ICE. Over the 35 years since graduating as a civil engineer, Peter
has had a varied international career in the built environment. He
joined CH2M HILL in 2008, after 27 years working for Arup leading
their environmental and
sustainability services, to become Head of Sustainability for CLM
the Delivery Partner to the Olympic Delivery
Authority for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games. He was
responsible for leading the sustainability
team and delivering the Olympic Delivery Authority's Sustainable
Development Strategy on time and within budget.
In recognition of his work in sustainability, Peter was conferred
as Honorary Professor in the School of Engineering at the
University of Birmingham in 2006.
