CIWEM'S JOURNAL OF FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT HAS THE 'I' FACTOR
CIWEM's Journal of Flood Risk Management was
recently awarded its first Impact Factor by the recognised Thomas
Reuters Web of Knowledge indexed Journal Citation Reports (JCR),
which hold a strong influence on publishing trends and author
journal choices.
The journal has been awarded a score of 1.176, a score much
higher than the median Impact Factor for journals in its category.
This is a considerable achievement for a new journal.
In a given year, the Impact Factor of a journal is the average
number of citations received per paper published in that journal
during the two preceding years, so it is a helpful indication of a
journal's quality and how widely read it is.
The positive grading emphasises the relevance of the journal now
and for the future as extreme weather events increase and climate
change impacts become more apparent. The importance of the
Journal of Flood Risk Management was summed up by Jim
Hall, the Journal's associate editor: 'Flood risk management is a
fundamentally interdisciplinary activity, which links natural
science, social science and engineering with practice on the ground
by professionals who are working to reduce flood risks. The
Journal of Flood Risk Management provides a unique forum
in which to exchange knowledge at the cutting edge of this vitally
important field.'
The journal is a joint publication with Wiley-Blackwell and
complements the influential Water and Environment Journal,
CIWEM's long-standing peer reviewed publication.
